The Gathering of Kurdish Rebels was a small Kurdish Free Syrian Army group based in the countryside of Aleppo Governorate. It was formed in January 2013 as part of the Kurdish Military Council, which had been founded the prior month. Its members claimed affiliation to the Azadî Party faction led by Mustafa Cumma, though as was the case with the larger Salah al-Din Ayyubi Brigade, Cumma denied any link with armed groups. The Gathering was critical of the PYD/YPG but tried to stay neutral in the growing rebel-YPG conflict; this would work in its favor when the KMC and YPG eventually started working together against jihadist groups.
