The 1st Brigade of Damascus was a Free Syrian Army unit based in the Qaboun, Barzeh, and Tishrin neighborhoods of Damascus. It was founded in late 2012, after the rebels had established a presence in the city. The group became part of the Southern Front in 2014, but as the battle for Damascus ground on, it developed a reputation for corruption and profiteering. It was also accused of collaborating with the regime. In June 2015 the brigade executed one of its own officers for criticizing the looting and extortion of local civilians, leading the Southern Front to cut ties. When the government recaptured the last rebel enclaves in Damascus in DATE TBD, the 1st Brigade gave up without a fight. Its members were later spotted fighting for the government in Hama.
