Liwa Sawa'iq ar-Rahman was a small Free Syrian Army unit operating in Idlib governorate. It was formed underground in early 2015 by former members of the Syria Revolutionaries Front, which had been attacked and disbanded by al-Nusra in the last months of 2014. Liwa Sawa'iq ar-Rahman swore revenge on al-Nusra and its jihadist allies and pledged itself to protecting the values and goals of the Syrian revolution. The group was neither large nor very active, with only a handful of ambushes and assassinations being conducted in its first year. With the creation of the anti-Nusra Idlib Liberation Front in January 2016 by several resurrected SRF brigades, Liwa Sawa'iq ar-Rahman served as the new front's "special operations" unit, though its activity was still rather limited.
