The Liberation Brigade was a small Free Syrian Army group based in western al-Hasakah and northern Raqqa governorates. It was formed in November 2014 in the YPG-held town of Ras al-Ayn, al-Hasakah, with the express purpose of driving the Islamic State out of Raqqa, where many of its fighters had originated from; the brigade's leader, Abdul Karim Obeid, was a former officer with the Farouq Battalions in Raqqa. The group participated in the mid-2015 liberation of Tal Abyad, northern Raqqa, alongside the Revolutionaries of Tal Abyad Front, which had a similar background, and several other Euphrates Volcano affiliates.
