The Knights of the Euphrates Brigade was a Free Syrian Army unit based in the town of Manbij in Aleppo governorate. It was founded as the Knights of the Euphrates Battalion in summer 2012 during the rebels' successful campaign to take Manbij. Originally part of the Idlib-based Suqour al-Sham Brigade, the Knights became an independent brigade in 2013. They were one of the largest factions in Manbij and established a "clean" reputation, in contrast with some other groups in the area like Liwa Jund al-Haramain. In January 2014, ISIS conquered Manbij. The Knights of the Euphrates Brigade retreated north, towards YPG-held Kobanî, and eventually joined the FSA-YPG operations room Euphrates Volcano. Over the course of 2014-2015, it helped push the Islamic State out of the Kobanî countryside. It also participated in the liberation of Manbij, and later al-Bab as well.
