The Idlib Military Council was a Free Syrian Army unit operating in Idlib governorate. It was formed in April 2012 by Col. Afif Suleiman, gathering several rebel brigades under its command, most notably including the Martyrs of Mt. Zawiya Battalion. Like many of the FSA's regional military councils, though, the Idlib Military Council failed to effectively unite its nominal affiliates, which continued operating separately. By 2013 the Council was limited to the area around Idlib city. It helped to form the Syria Revolutionaries Front in December of that year. The SRF developed a reputation for corruption, and al-Nusra used this as an excuse to attack and disband the SRF. Col. Suleiman and those of his remaining fighters dispersed, with many joining the 5th Corps. In January 2016 Suleiman reactivated his group as part of the Idlib Liberation Front during an escalation in FSA-Nusra fighting. The Council played a major role in securing control of Idlib city in DATE TBD and was the main faction in the city by the end of the war.
