Tajammu Katai'b Furat Jarabulus, often known simply as Furat Jarabulus, was a Free Syrian Army unit operating in Aleppo. Originally part of Liwa al-Tawhid, it was led by the influential al-Jader clan and based in the town of Jarabulus. After ISIS expelled other rebels from Jarabulus in June 2013, Furat Jarabulus tried unsuccessfully to recapture the town, with many al-Jader men killed in the process. It then allied itself with the YPG to fight ISIS. In February 2014 the group helped to form the first iteration of the Euphrates Islamic Liberation Front, a coalition of anti-ISIS rebels that coordinated (albeit uneasily and unofficially) with the YPG. Their attempts to liberate eastern Aleppo from the control of ISIS (now simply called the Islamic State) were unsuccessful, and the EILF became defunct by autumn 2014. However, Furat Jarabulus remained active and eventually joined Euphrates Volcano, a joint FSA-YPG operations room. Some fighters formed Saraya Jarabulus and participated in the defense of Kobanî; many of these would later rejoin Furat Jarabulus after IS was pushed out of Kobanî canton in spring 2015. Furat Jarabulus was the main FSA brigade to participate in the recapture of Jarabulus in August 2016.
