The 99th Infantry Brigade was a small Free Syrian Army unit based in eastern Idlib governorate. It was formed in mid-2013 by Ahmad Muhammad Sultan. The group joined the Syria Revolutionaries Front in early 2014. When the SRF was crushed by al-Nusra and its allies in late 2014, the 99th Infantry Brigade fled to Aleppo, eventually allying itself with the Kurdish YPG and Jabhat al-Akrad. In January 2016 it returned to Idlib to help form the anti-Nusra Idlib Liberation Front. It maintained contact with the Special Operations Brigade, another former SRF unit that ended up working with the YPG.
